One of the fastest ways to make money online is with people who already know you. It’s quite simple. But what about all those people who don’t know you who would benefit from what you offer? Will they buy from you? Well… maybe.
The most important thing to do is get in front of them, engage them, build trust and when appropriate, make an offer.
Lots of people have it turned around. Rather than building a long term view of the people who are a perfect fit for their products, they go right into trying to sell a high priced product to a very cold market.
Sure, you might get some results, but they will be minimal compared to building a foundation of trust.
There are three levels of traffic to consider:
Cold traffic is anyone who has no idea who you are or very little idea what it is you have to offer. This is often the majority of your traffic, especially if you are unknown or just starting out.
Warm traffic are people who may have heard of you through someone they know. They are also those who have opted in for something, but still don’t know much about you.
Hot traffic can be described as those people who know, like and trust you AND they are willing to buy what you offer.
Often, those new to selling information products online fail to differentiate between the three. How you approach cold traffic needs to be very different than how you approach hot traffic. To have no differentiator between the different levels of traffic is setting yourself up for failure.
The response you will get from people who know you, have bought from you in the past and love what you do will be far more positive than people who don’t know you.
The best way to move someone from cold to warm to hot is with high value content. That’s right… engage people with high value content they are interested in.
Here are just a few of the many choices you have in creating trust and value:
- Blog posts
- Social media updates
- Content videos
- White papers
There are plenty more ways to move someone from cold to hot traffic, but these are some of my favorites.
If you’re trying to make money online and have been hitting a brick wall, it could be because you are asking for too much too soon. If someone has never heard of you and you make a $1,000 offer, it’s likely you will hit the wall over and over.
If, on the other hand, you make their investment a very low-risk proposition your chances of success are incredibly high.

It’s definitely better to have a very targeted list of those who really want to hear from us rather than one that has puffed up numbers and most of the emails are either old, bad or bogus.
