If you try to go this alone, it will likely be harder than need be. Yet, when you surround yourself with others who also choose to eat and live plant-based it is much easier.
A few ways to find this support is in your local community through Facebook and LinkedIn groups, Meetups, Pods through Plant Pure Nation, local restaurants and get together with friends.
Virtually, there are countless ways to stay connected including:
- Facebook Groups
- LinkedIn Groups
- Podcast shows
- YouTube Channels
Our focus with this post is for several Facebook Groups I fully endorse. Over the next few days I will post other platforms you can explore to gain even more support for the plant-based lifestyle.
Plant Based Eating for Health
I started this group in November 2018 to build a community of people who are interested in healthy eating. As of this writing we are at 950 members. My goal is to continue to grow the group and create an environment for people at all stages of the plant-based lifestyle to share their own experiences, recipes, challenges, victories and anything that will help you along the way.
Description of Group: This group is for those who promote a whole food, plant based, oil free, unprocessed foods, lifestyle. We have a strong focus on a balanced protocol of nutrition, exercise, meditation and community. Eating a whole food diet without animal products has the potential to prevent and reverse diseases and obesity, which improves our health and longevity.
There is a focus on how plant-based eating can improve your performance in business. We are also committed to compassion for animals of all breeds. The protocol is humane to animals. Therefore, we do not eat meat, fish, chicken or any dairy.
WFPB gets oil naturally from avocados, seeds and nuts… We DO NOT use processed oils … This is a great place to share recipes, ideas, local restaurants that will offer WFPB menus and to offer support to one another! You are welcome to share your experience, but no selling of your programs or products. Absolutely no MLM promotions. You are encouraged to share video links to experts in the WFPB community as well as books you recommend.
This group is run by Ellen Jaffe Jones. Ellen is an avid runner. She is also the author of several books including Vegan Fitness for Mortals, Vegan Sex, and Eat Vegan for $4 a Day. There are others, but these are my three favorites.
You can eat on a budget. Ellen Jaffe Jones shows you how.
Description of Group: Questions or concerns about all things running and vegan. I’m a certified personal trainer (AFAA), running coach, & accomplished sprint/endurance runner for 33 years. Currently 3rd in US W65-69 4x100M, 5th in 800M, 7th in 1500 & 400M, and have placed in 131 5K or longer races for age group since ’06 ‘just’ on plants. Have done 12 half marathons, 2 fulls, though experts say those with my sprint times generally don’t even finish a full. Former PCRM cooking instructor before 6 books came out, including Vegan Fitness for Mortals. 2 Emmy’s from 18 years in TV news in Miami/St. Louis.
Plant Based Over 50
This is a very active group with over 23,000 members. Started by Laurie Hecht in September 2018, there are lots of great conversations to be found in this group.
This is for all over 50’s who are interested in a healthy lifestyle. Primarily vegan but all are welcome. Posts can include Plant-based food and any relevant topics.
Description: The goal is for this group is to be a Positive fun environment. No judgmental, critical or rude posts will be tolerated. Please do not give medical advice.
We are all here for advice and support with health, food, weight, aging and any other relevant issues so go ahead and ask your questions. Share your successes and tips. This is ‘our’ group and a safe space. Please share all your food pics and include recipes.
It is asked that any recipes be Plant Based. There is no solicitation or selling allowed. Also, no events can be posted without permission.
Plant Based News
I highly recommend this group for updates on what’s going on around the world. There is a strong leaning toward animal rights.
Description: Plant Based News is an award-winning vegan resource for the latest up-to-the minute plant-based-interest content. It is stuffed with news, blogs, reviews, and more.
Our aim is to use this website and our social media platforms to create awareness about animal rights, environmentalism, ethical consumerism and the plant-based lifestyle. Not a false narrative – but information that empowers people to make better choices.
Whether you’re interested in health, the environment, or video interviews with the biggest names in the vegan world, you will find something to entertain or inspire you.
