Hi, my name is D’vorah Lansky and I am excited to share this blog post, on the topic of Digital Publishing, with you. I’d like to thank Kathleen for hosting me during this virtual tour, in honor of Digital Publishing Virtual Summit, where we feature 20 world-renowned book marketing experts.
Today I’ll be talking about current trends in the Digital Publishing world. Even authors who have a print version of their book will benefit greatly by also having their book available in digital format. Providing easy access to their books on eReaders will allow them to sell more books and reach more readers. Having content in audio and video format, opens up additional opportunities while providing consumers with content in their preferred format.
Think about your own learning style. Do you prefer to read, listen to content being read, or would you rather view a video, when you are learning or enjoying content? Why not make your content available in all three formats and appeal to a broader audience.
In addition to digital downloadable products, you can digitally produce audio CDs and video DVDs for your audience. Provide “on the go” products so that people can listen while they are doing something else or while they are away from their computers.
By providing products that you ship to your customers, you have the opportunity to build a relationship with them. When they receive your products through the mail, they are able to hold them in their hands, listen to your voice, and read any written material you’ve enclosed in the package. It is simple and affordable to create a CD from an audio file and a DVD from a video file. There are companies such as Kunaki.com and Vervante.com that will drop ship your products and charge you only a couple of dollars to do so.
The fastest way to create content is to produce an audio recording. This will allow you to capture your message, transcribe your audio, and create a wide variety of products from your recordings.
Here are just a few ideas:
- Develop an eCourse on your topic
- Create a group or private coaching program
- Produce an audio or video
- Provide a book study or book reading
Give thought to what message you’d like to share with your audience, and then think of at least two formats you can share that message in. For example, you can compose a blog post and then create an audio recording of the blog post to add a multimedia component to your message.
Enjoy this Digital Publishing Virtual Tour! May the gems gleaned aid you on your path as you share your message with audiences across the globe!

Do you know if a new upgraded version for Mobi files uploaded to KDP called Kindle Formatting 8 is necessary now? My latest Kindle book was uploaded in March of 2012 and since then when I check on my account I notice something called Kindle Formatting 8. Do you have any information on this?
Thank you!
Angela Artemis
Hi Angela, thrilled to have you as part of the virtual summit, welcome! Great question about Kindle 8. This is a format that is currently available for Kindle Fire only. It sounds like it may be available for other Kindle devises moving forward. You can get the scoop at:

Dear Kathleen,
Thank you for sharing this info. I have been following D’vorah thanks to you introducing me to her when I joined your Kindle Best Seller Program. By the way – if anyone is wondering – learning all you can about book marketing works!
I now have three Kindle best sellers thanks to your program and all the great experts you’ve introduced me to.
Hi Angela, how exciting about your Kindle bestsellers, you go girl! I’m off to Kindle to see what you are up to. Thanks for your kind words!
It’s my pleasure D’vorah! Thank you!
Trend is changing most of the people are now preferring e-book instead of traditional book. Because it is easy to carry.
You’re right Jim. Many people do prefer digital although physical books still have a lot of appeal.
Hi Jim, great point! As much as people love the convenience of ebooks, there’s nothing like holding a book in our hands! Having a digital version of our book available for our readers allows us to provide them our book in the format their prefer. Also, for those who spend a lot of time on the computer, taking a book and getting away from it all is a great pleasure.
