Today I am thrilled to bring you an interview with author, Karen Salmansohn. Karen Salmansohn is an ex Senior VP ad creative director (at age 26) who left her job to pursue her passion of writing – and is now a best selling author with over 1 million books sold, with titles including HOW TO BE HAPPY DAMMIT; ENOUGH DAMMIT; BALLSY:99 WAYS TO SCORE EXTREME SUCCESS — and now her newest book, THE BOUNCE BACK BOOK:HOW TO THRIVE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY, SETBACKS, AND LOSSES.

1. Tell us about yourself – where you are from, how you got started writing, what you do when you are not writing (or anything you want our readers to know)
I used to be a senior VP in advertising at age 26 – but wasn’t really happy writing toothpaste and cat food jingles – so I quit to become an author. I figured if I could make it in a profession I wasn’t passionate about – if I just followed the same principles for success, I could perhaps make it as an author – which I was very, very passionate about.
2. What inspired you to write your first book?
My first published book was a novel called 50% OFF – a funny love story about a girl who’s in advertising – but she wasn’t me. She has blue eyes. I have brown eyes. She does have dark brown curly hair—but that’s just a wacky coincidence! Seriously – it’s fictional.  I sold it to St. Martin’s Press – then Miramax to be a movie starring Marissa Tomei. I wrote the screenplay – but it never got green lit. After that I began writing business books giving tips to others about how they too could pursue and snag their dream careers. One them is called BALLSY – which give 99 tips to score extreme success – all of them time after time after time tested very personally!
3. How many books have you written?
I have over 20 published books at this point – with over 1 million books in total sold. I now mainly create self help books for people who wouldn’t be caught dead reading self help books – like this new one THE BOUNCE BACK BOOK – with a red rubber cover on the outside and inside tips on how to thrive in the face of adversity, setback and losses.  So far it’s gotten some super nice advance praise from some cool folks like Deepak Chopra and Tony Robbins – which makes me happy because I love their books.
4. How do you decide on their topic?
THE BOUNCE BACK BOOK was inspired from going through a personally challenging time – and learning all kinds of resiliency psychology techniques which were helping me – so I wanted to share them with others.  This book is very near and dear to my heart.
5. What works best to keep you focused and on track?
I pick topics to write about which I’m curious and passionate about.  I love researching and discovering new research studies – that’s a kind of writer’s fetish of mind – finding quirky research studies.  THE BOUNCE BACK BOOK is full of them.
6. Do you write to make money or for the love of writing?
I believe money doesn’t bring you happiness – but happiness brings you money. If you love what you do the money will come – partially for logical reasons – not just the Law Of Attraction. When you’re passionate you work longer hours – and you have the emotional energy to jump over obstacles in a single bound.
7. What are some traditional methods of marketing you have used to gain visibility for you and your book(s)?
I love people – so I love when a book is done and I am on book tour and get to having conversations with people on the radio or on TV– which always gets my mind going and I wind up learning even more about the book’s topic – which I love. And I love giving seminars to large groups – and getting feedback in a room – hearing which parts of the book people find most valuable – then I blog about the new ideas and new information being gathered at my website – www.notsalmon.com — so the book remains a living breathing constantly growing literary organism of sorts!
8. What are some unique methods?
I am putting together a Bounce Back Contest right now – collecting people’s stories of glory about how they bounced back from a tough time – and am gathering some very cool prizes to give away to the winners – like a luxurious spa trip. My site will have more info about that shortly – again at www.notsalmon.com
9. Do you sell through a website?
Yes you can find out more about my books at my site – and buy them – first peeking at some of their pages via my webdesigner’s flashart spreads. Plus I sell my books through bookstores, Amazon – all the usual places.
10. Do you plan on writing additional books?
Yes I love writing. My best selling book HOW TO BE HAPPY DAMMIT is one of my personal favorites – and spawned a few dammit sequels already like ENOUGH DAMMIT and THE 7 LIVELY SINS (HOW TO ENJOY YOUR LIFE DAMMIT). I plan to write more dammit books very shortly.
