Imagine what it would be like to use a Kindle book to build a subscriber list while increasing your market reach and high ticket sales. Is this even possible? Absolutely!
However, it’s a very underutilized strategy primarily because authors don’t know about it and if they do, they don’t fully understand how effective it can be.
It’s called Permafree.
As the name indicates, Kindle books that are permafree are just that… permanently free. So how can you make money from giving a book away?
Here are three ways.
- Lead bait inside the book designed to build your list
- Back end offers
- Reaching more potential buyers
Why Permafree?
You might be wondering why you would go to so much trouble to write a book, only to give it away. As mentioned above, there are three very good reasons with List Building at the top.
In spite of the fact that open rates on subscriber lists have gone down, a subscriber list is still one of the most valuable assets an author can have. The more targeted the list, the better.
Doing business online becomes much easier and much more profitable if you have a built-in audience who loves your work.
When structured correctly, a permafree book can make you hundreds, thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars on the back end.
I’ve had a book listed as permafree for a couple of years. In that time, the book has remained in the #1 and #2 position in a couple of categories.
Members of my Book Accelerator program are going to learn exactly how I do this. On July 19th, I’m going to share how that’s possible and the benefits from continually promoting the book (and what I do to bump the numbers each and every time I promote the permafree book)
Right now, as I am writing this message, it is #1 in management. The book is called, Power Up Your Sales; Generate Leads for High End Sales Through Public Speaking.

Amazon Won’t Give You Buyer Names
Wouldn’t it be great if you could get the names of everyone who buys your books from Amazon? Well, it’s not going to happen. Amazon will NEVER give up that information. But, there is a workaround. Inside your books you can have what’s called lead bait.
Lead bait is simply a way to get people on your subscriber list. All you need do is add in free offers inside your book that are aligned with the subject matter of the book. For example, in Power Up Your Sales, I have a couple of free offers.
One is my free report on how I make over $100,000 a year with free presentations. This offer encourages readers to opt in for the report which gets the on my subscriber list. This is the best workaround with the restrictions Amazon has that restricts you from ever getting names of book buyers.
Plan your campaign
I work with clients in a number of ways. One is helping them strategize how to get in front of audiences who will buy their high end services. The best way to do this is with self staged events. Power Up Your Sales teaches this very strategy.
Inside the book are several opportunities for readers to opt into my subscriber list.
As I wrote the book, I kept in mind who my ideal, “Sweet Spot” client is and what their most pressing problem that they want a solution for.

Kathleen, just wanted to say how helpful I find your information. I’ve been on your subscriber list for a while, and I always look forward to what you have to share. I think I did end up subscribing because of the permafree book you mention here. It’s a great book, and I gave it an enthusiastic review.
Thank you so much for what you do for authors. 🙂
Thank you for your comments Lee Ann AND for downloading the book. I appreciate your kind words and feedback
