Most of my posts in this 30 day challenge have been about self-love.
Exercising, healthy eating and quiet time are just a few of the topics I’ve shared.
When we take care of ourselves, it is an expression of how much we love ourselves.
Love Heals
Today, I want to share about the healing power of loving others, which includes our fur babies.
It is with a heavy heart I write this post today. It’s been only a few hours since helping our rescue, Delaney, take her journey over the rainbow bridge.
Delaney came to us in a very unusual way. Truth be told, we didn’t think she would live more than a few days. Days turned into weeks, weeks into months, months into years.
As we held her as she took her last breath, I had no doubt we were doing the most loving thing we could for her.
She was old, near blind, almost completely deaf, had a bad hip and was recently diagnosed with cancer. This was not her first bought with cancer.
Yet, in spite of all that was challenging to her, she was such a trooper.

Heart Dog
It has been said that regardless of how many dogs we have, there is one that is your heart dog. I call this one dog my soul dog. This was what I experienced with Delaney.
Others experience this with horses, cats, birds and virtually any type of animal. When we have this experience, the pain of losing them runs incredibly deep.
When we love deep, we hurt deep. It’s a price I’m willing to pay.
Even though my heart is broken, it is filled with gratitude for all the incredible memories I have of Delaney.
