Most people want success… or so they say. They claim they will do whatever it takes (within their value system) and yet, when the rubber meets the road, an incredibly high number of people put a half hearted effort into what they are doing.
The fact is, success takes effort and it takes work. There’s no other way to say it. Yet, it doesn’t have to be drudgery. It can be a joyful experience where we confront our greatest fears.
A few years ago I went rafting with a group of friends. We were having the time of our life. Around one bend we could see people diving into a deep pool of water.
As a kid I used to love to dive into water. It didn’t matter if it was a swimming pool, a lake, a deep spot in a river or whatever. I loved diving and I loved water.
I told my rafting buddies I was going to jump from the rock. Now mind you, I am in my mid fifties and not the spunky kid I used to be.
When we got to the shore I excitedly jumped out of the raft and began the climb up the rock that led to the diver’s ledge. All the way up I just knew this was going to be fun. Then I got to the top. Whoa! It was a lot higher than it appeared from the bottom.
Panic set in. I didn’t know if I could do it. Yet, I didn’t want to turn around and not follow my heart. I stood there frozen in time.
How could I be so fearful? What was stopping me? Plenty of people had jumped from this rock and yet, here I was, a middle aged woman, scared out of my wits.
I knew the longer I stood there the tougher it would be to make the leap. Then I heard it; the encouragement from the crowd below. “You can do it. You can do it.”
Mustering up what courage I could I thought, “What the heck. You only live once and you don’t want to have any regrets.” I took the leap of faith. Before I knew it I hit the water, sunk deep and then eased to the surface.
Swimming to the shore I could hear myself screaming with joy. “That was a blast!” I announced with so much pride.
In the moment I took the leap I made a decision. The decision was, “Do I stop and wonder how fun that would have been or do I jump and trust the process?”
Once all was said and done I had more pride and joy than I could imagine. I had taken the leap of faith. Nothing could compare with the feeling I had when it was over. I succeeded.
Yet, I could have just as easily not done so. I could have let fear take over and never had the experience.
The fact is, life is filled with fearful moments. Moments that offer the opportunity to live our truth or hold back ever wondering what we could have accomplished.
Whether is diving from a rock or taking a risk in business, it all begins with a decision. Every moment of every day we have choice. Will we or won’t we ….?
One way we overcome the fear is by watching what others have done and learning from them. We learn from books, seminars, coaching, private mentoring and masterminding.
If fear has been holding you back in your business, check out these amazing opportunities to learn from those who honored their path and did what it took to achieve success.

Hi Kathleen!
What a great post – thanks!
Just last week we signed 8 year old Caleb up for a rock climbing camp at the gym.
Scared at first, he did not want to go the 2nd day. We went anyway. When we stopped by to watch him half way thru that day he came running up to me with a hug saying “Daddy, I love rock climbing!”
He was tired on Friday the last day and he did not want to go. Maritza said nope, it’s important that you finish what you start.
Later that day, when he had made it to the top 3 times (his goal for the week) I have never seen him so beaming with pride, and I have tears in my eyes as I type this…
All of these challenges, diving, rock climbing are great metaphors for the adventure of building a biz online.
Your words “It can be a joyful experience where we confront our greatest fears” is so true.
If you want a crash course in personal growth, facing things you never thought you would face, and accomplishing things you never thought you could accomplish, then build and internet biz – come on in, the water’s fine!
And come to NAMS 4!
See you soon!
~ Jeff
I agree, Kathleen. I know from experience that sometimes the only way to take a quantum leap forward is to take a leap of faith. Courage is not the absence of fear, it’s the ability to act in spite of your fear. You gain confidence by doing. You learn by doing. You overcome fear by doing the very thing that you are afraid of.
When I started my Resonance Repatterning practice I had the luxury of being unemployed and I say it was a luxury because I had to succeed at building my practice. I had nothing to fall back on. Failure was not an option. I chose not to look for another job to tide me over because I knew that every minute I spent job hunting was time that I could be using to build my practice. I know that not everyone is in a position to do what I did, but once you make the commitment and you take a leap of faith then the Universe moves to support you. If you’re waiting for the support to show up first, it may never happen. Take your leap to show your commitment and the support will materialize.
Thanks for the great feedback Jeff and Elizabeth. Your comments are very much appreciated.
Kathleen – Thanks for sharing this post! It’s sometimes so hard to take that leap – or even a first step – when the future looks a bit scary and definitely unknown. I’m in the planning stages of refining my own vision and business and it’s a bit scary.
I’ll be at NAMS again next month – so looking forward to more learning, but most of all – to the networking with others who share my focus and vision!
Thank you for your comments Rebekah. I look forward to seeing you at NAMS4.
