In recent months Twitter has become very popular in many circles. Yet, what is Twitter?
Twitter is a micromedia tool that allows you post short messages to other Twitterers who want to get your information. Your messages are limited to 140 characters, which forces you to think about the most important information you want to send.
There are of course, those who use Twitter to send useless information. But for many professionals we have found great value in this resource.
I was first introduced to Twitter by my colleagues, Patsi Krakoff and Denise Wakeman aka The Blog Squad. Based on their recommendation I registered. I’m glad I did.
I just found a great article on Twitter that again, Denise Wakeman had a posting about.
It’s called 5 Twitter Tactics for Building a Stellar Brand.
I highly recommend this information for anyone who is wondering if Twitter is for you.

Hi Kathleen… I joined twitter several months ago — I signed up and then wasn’t sure how it works so left it. One day I received an e-mail saying someone was following me — at first I thought I was being stalked!! It was quite a daunting feeling! Laughable now. Now I use it all the time… and it’s great. It is a good program to use and it is a great way just to see what’s happening with the people you are following.

I actually thought the same thing about having a follower. Now I love having my Twitter followers.

I’ve had tremendous success with Twitter. Connected with “players” in my field, set up JV opps, been invited to speak, cemented relationships with colleagues I previously only knew casually, received referrals for outsourcing some projects, etc., etc.
The key is to not get totally sucked in to the point of wasting time and being unproductive.
Follow the people you want to know, your clients, your key colleagues. Check in a couple times a day to see what’s going on, respond or initiate contact. Share value and a bit about yourself. You’ll be amazed at the results.
Blog on!
You are so right Denise. I have found Twitter to be a nice addition to my over all business strategy.
Thanks for your post.
